Roger Earl Acton

FRANKLIN, IN.

Roger Earl Acton, 75 of Franklin, IN passed away November 28, 2022, at the Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick, Georgia.

He was born April 2, 1947, in Seymour, IN to Lester Edward Acton and Clara (Griffin) Acton. Roger married Sharon (Wright) Acton on June 4, 1971, in Franklin, IN, she survives. Also surviving are his two sisters Beverly Roberts of Seymour, IN and Peggy Harmeling (Mike) of New Albany, IN, a niece Becky Boling of Seymour, IN, extended Acton family and a circle of friends. His constant companions from 1999 to 2020 were his beloved dogs, first Buddy and then Charley. Happy childhood memories include time at family camps on the White River and later the Ohio River.

Roger was a 1965 graduate of Seymour High School and IVY Tech College in 1974. He served in the United States Army from 1966 until 1969 including thirteen months in Vietnam.

He retired from Cummins Engine Company in Columbus after 37 years of service in various departments.

Throughout his life, Roger loved music, especially playing the guitar and singing. Beginning in high school, Roger formed a band “The Citations”. Lifelong he continued to perform at coffee houses, festivals and special events. Roger committed his life to Christ at the First Baptist Church in Seymour; IN. He was a member of Hurricane Community Church in Franklin, IN where he served as a deacon, Sunday School and Bible study leader. He especially enjoyed singing in the church choir.

In earlier years, Roger enjoyed jogging, bicycling, studying and collecting antiques. For the past 20 years, he has treasured every moment at his winter home on Jekyll Island, Georgia.

Pastor Dan McLaughlin will conduct a service on Wednesday December 7, 2022, at 10:30 A.M. at Hurricane Community Church 4952 North Hurricane Road in Franklin, IN. Friends may call Tuesday December 6, 2022, from 4PM until 8PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and Wednesday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. Burial will follow the service at Greenlawn Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the United States Army Honor Guard and Franklin American Legion Post 205 Honor Guard.
