Boys basketball

Lancers coast to home win

Class A No. 2 Edinburgh pulled away from visiting Waldron on Saturday, 66-44. Caleb Dewey poured in 30 points for the Lancers (4-0, 1-0 Mid-Hoosier), followed by Jarrett Turner with 17 and Connor Ramey with nine.

Grizzly Cubs edge Owls

Wyatt Nickleson led the way with 19 points as Franklin topped Seymour, 70-64. Micah Davis added 16 points for the Grizzly Cubs (2-2), while Grant Hunter contributed 11.

Girls basketball

Braves get past Tiger Cubs

Four players scored in double figures as Class 3A No. 3 Indian Creek defeated visiting Greencastle, 53-45. Lauren Foster had 13 points and six assists for the Braves (9-0, 3-0 WIC), with Faith Wiseman adding 11 points and 10 rebounds. Ayla Lollar and Savannah Hall each finished with 10 points.

Grizzly Cubs compete in HOF meet

Host Franklin finished fourth among the girls teams and sixth on the boys side at the annual Hall of Fame Classic on Saturday. The Grizzly Cub girls totaled 385 points and got individual victories from Allie Lacy (100 IM, 50 backstroke), Lili Ratzlaff (200 freestyle) and Kathleen Lacy (50 breaststroke). The Franklin boys finished with 315 points.

Trojans crush Bull Dogs

Mia Prusiecki broke her own school diving record with 317.05 points for six dives as Center Grove’s girls dominated Columbus North, 144-42, on Saturday. Also earning event wins for the Trojan girls were Lexi Stuart (200 freestyle), Addyson Matern (200 IM), Lara Phipps (50 free), Tenley Wilkins (100 butterfly), Izzie Ferguson (100 free), Kayla Fischer (500 free) and Rachel Ingle (100 backstroke).

The Center Grove boys topped the Bull Dogs, 124-56. Individual winners included Sam Smith (200 free), Connor Conkin (200 IM), Isaac Lewis (50 free), Henry Lyness (100 fly), Jonah Brandon (100 free), Max Hite (500 free), Evan Hernandez (100 back) and Aidan Lyness (100 breast). The Trojans also won all six relays on the morning.

Woodmen, Warriors swim at Pike

Greenwood and Whiteland both took part in the Pike Invitational, with the Woodmen finishing sixth in the girls meet and ninth on the boys side. The Warrior girls were eighth and the boys 11th. Greenwood’s Naomi Weaver finished first in the girls 100-yard butterfly.

Trojans sweep in Bloomington

Third-ranked Center Grove made quick work of its competition at the Bloomington North Invitational on Saturday, winning all five of its matches by lopsided margins. The Trojans shut out the host Cougars, Martinsville and West Washington, beat Columbus North 77-6 and topped Bloomington South by a 57-13 count.

Men’s basketball hammers Defiance

A school-record 23 3-pointers powered Franklin College to a 111-77 rout at Defiance on Saturday afternoon. Carter Crowe had a career-high 30 points, nine rebounds and six assists for the Grizzlies (4-3, 1-0 HCAC), with Ryan Bostic (17 points), Trey Flatt (16) and Logan Hudgins (13) also scoring in double figures.

Women’s basketball wins HCAC opener

Franklin College outscored Defiance 15-4 in the fourth quarter to pull out a 58-51 road win. Taylor Cooney had 13 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists to lead the Grizzlies (2-3, 1-0 HCAC), with Lauryn Bates adding 12 points and 12 boards.

Swim/dive sweeps Panthers

Franklin College took both halves of its dual meet with visiting Hanover, with the men rolling to a 167-31 win and the women winning by a similar 165-24 count.

For the Grizzly men, Kyle Haflich (200 freestyle, 100 backstroke), Tyler Wood (500 and 1,650 free), Gauge Creech (diving), John Hasquin (50 free), Vincent Fletcher (400 IM), Jack Burke (100 butterfly), Logan Parker (100 free) and Campbell Coyle (100 breaststroke) were individual winners, while the 400 medley and 200 freestyle relays also took first.

The women also won both relays and got individual victories from Samantha Phillips (50 and 500 free), Regan Hendricks (400 IM, 100 fly), Caileigh McCafferty (100 free, 100 breast), Carley Bond (diving), Kennedy Minter (100 back), Grace Williams (200 free) and Erin Perkins (1,650 free).
