College notebook: Grizzlies’ Crowe picks up HCAC honor

Franklin College swingman Carter Crowe has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s basketball player of the week. The senior, a Whiteland graduate, averaged 21.5 points, 10 rebounds and 4.5 assists in the Grizzlies’ lopsided victories over Centre and Defiance.

Whiteland

Sophomore guard Logan Willoughby led Manchester men’s basketball to a 75-60 victory at Earlham with 23 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Center Grove

Indiana Wesleyan guard Spencer Piercefield helped the Wildcats to an 81-79 win at Marian with 16 points, three assists and two rebounds. He had eight points and two boards in a 108-56 romp over East-West.

Indiana senior Trayce Jackson-Davis posted yet another double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds in the Hoosiers’ 63-48 loss at Rutgers. His triple-double of 23 points, 12 boards and 10 assists fueled IU’s 81-65 victory over visiting Nebraska.

Sophomore guard Landin Hacker had three points, three boards and three assists for Bellarmine as it downed visiting Wabash College, 86-45.

Bentley senior guard Ella Thompson had 12 points, five assists and three rebounds in a 65-55 win over Southern Connecticut State. She had three points and three assists in a 55-42 victory at Pace.

The Purdue women’s basketball team needed overtime to win at Michigan State, 76-71. Senior guard Cassidy Hardin finished with 11 points and four boards.

Vermont guard Emma Utterback had 11 points and five assists in the team’s 81-60 triumph against Marist.

Truman State junior Claire Rake had three assists and a rebound as the team won at Illinois-Springfield, 86-79.

DePauw sophomore defensive back Dane Young was named to the All-North Coast Athletic Conference second team after finishing the season with 33 tackles, three pass breakups and two interceptions.

Franklin

Franklin College diver Gauge Creech won the 1-meter event as the Grizzlies men’s swim squad won against visiting Hanover, 167-31. The senior was also named the HCAC male diver of the week for the 19th time in his career.

Radford guard Ashlyn Traylor had 14 points, six assists and three steals in a 67-54 loss to visiting Liberty. Traylor has already been named the Big South Conference freshman player of the week twice this season.

Wabash Valley College freshman guard Kuryn Brunson helped her squad score a 114-41 victory over visiting Lincoln Trail College with her 11 points, six rebounds and three steals.

Senior Bayleigh Torrance grabbed three rebounds in Franklin College’s 58-51 win at Defiance.

Huntington guard Kyra Baker had four points and three rebounds in the team’s 89-62 victory over visiting IU Northwest.

Greenwood Christian

Indiana Wesleyan sophomore Izzy Reed scored 11 points and grabbed three rebounds off the bench in IWU’s 68-64 loss at Marian.

Wabash College men’s basketball rallied to defeat visiting Oberlin, 80-78, as Champ McCorkle had 11 points and team-highs in rebounds (six) and blocked shots (two). Styles McCorkle had three points and three boards off the bench and produced 10 points in an 86-45 loss at Bellarmine.

Sophomore guard Maddie Bischoff (Greenwood) finished with 13 points and three assists as Ball State women’s basketball downed visiting St. Louis, 85-51.
