Boys basketball

Trojans hammer Martinsville

Four players scored in double figures on Saturday as host Center Grove cooked Martinsville, 75-38. Joey Schmitz had 16 points and Marcus Ankney 15 for the Trojans (5-0), who also got 10 apiece from Jalen Bundy and Will Spellman.

Grizzly Cubs edged at buzzer

A last-second shot lifted North Central past Franklin, 61-59. Micah Davis finished with 24 points for the Grizzly Cubs (3-3), followed by Grant Hunter with 13 and Dylan Beverly with 11.

Cougars get past Saints

Max Booher led the way with 16 points as Greenwood Christian nipped Indianapolis Lutheran, 44-41. Blake Shewmaker and Evan McIntire added 11 and seven points, respectively, for the Cougars (2-3).

Girls basketball

Warriors rout Artesians

Whiteland rolled to a 61-35 win at Martinsville on Saturday. Emma Piercy paced the Warriors (6-6, 3-0 Mid-State) with 15 points, followed by Gwen Hidgon with 11, Brooklyn Taylor with 10 and Sophia Dyer with nine.

Lancers prevail in squeaker

Gracie Crawhorn collected 26 points, leading Edinburgh to a narrow 45-42 victory at Milan. Kenna Streeval contributed 12 points for the Lancers (5-6).

Trojans sweep in Brownsburg

Center Grove’s boys and girls both took top team honors in the Bulldog Relays at Brownsburg on Saturday. The Trojan boys took first in the 100, 200, 250, 400 and 1,000 medley relays, the 100 and 400 freestyle relays and the 200 butterfly and breaststroke relays. The girls were winners in the 100, 200, 250 and 1,000 medleys, the 100, 200 and 400 freestyles and the 200 butterfly and backstroke.

Center Grove takes tournament

Third-ranked Center Grove lapped the field at the Zionsville Eagle Invitational on Saturday, compiling 419 points to beat runner-up Floyd Central by 150. Winning individual weight class titles for the Trojans were Charlie LaRocca (113 pounds), Eddie Goss (120), Hyatt Yeager (126), Reese Courtney (138), Silas Stits (152), Andre Merritt (160), Noah Clouser (170), Kaden McConnell (195) and Nate Johnson (220).

Franklin College

Swimmers dominate Anderson

Franklin College swept its dual meet with Anderson, with the men taking a 159-47 win and the women rolling to a 153-53 victory. The men took both relays and got individual wins from Jack Fletcher (100 and 200 freestyle), Kosmo Wojack (200 IM, 200 breaststroke), Tyler Wood (1,650 freestyle), Parker Montgomery (50 free), Jack Burke (200 butterfly), Logan Parker (200 backstroke) and Adrian Armstrong (500 free). The Grizzly women got wins from Samantha Phillips (200 free, 200 fly), Caileigh McCafferty (200 IM, 200 back), Erin Perkins (1,650 free), Kennedy Minter (50 free), Regan Hendricks (500 free), Becky Pfeifer (200 breast) and the medley and freestyle relay teams.

Women’s basketball wins third in a row

Taylor Cooney scored 18 points to help Franklin College to a 57-45 home win over Manchester. Georgia Hanauer added 10 points and Jordan Coon nine for the Grizzlies (4-3, 2-1 HCAC).

Men’s basketball falls to Spartans

Despite a career-high 23 points from Trey Flatt, Franklin College suffered a 78-74 home loss to Manchester. Lynn King added 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Grizzlies (4-4, 1-1 HCAC).
