Red Kettle gifts being tripled this week

An anonymous donor’s $50,000 gift will triple donations made to the Salvation Army of Central Indiana’s Red Kettle Campaign from today to Christmas Eve.

The gift will triple donations made to storefront Red Kettles up to $45,000 for Red Kettle gifts and up to $5,000 for gifts made to the Central Indiana Virtual Red Kettle, according to a press release from the organization.

The rising costs of Salvation Army programs like Angel Tree, emergency utility assistance and food pantries, make reaching the Red Kettle Campaign goal of $3.4 million is more vital than ever before, the release says.

As of Dec. 13, the campaign had only raised 39% of this year’s goal. Shoppers have until Christmas Eve to donate to Red Kettles before they are put away for another year, the release says.

Donations can be made by dropping cash into Red Kettles, or with a credit card by using Tip Tap devices on kettle stands. Donors can use Apple Pay, Google Pay, Venmo, or PayPal to make a gift by tapping their credit card, smartphone, or smartwatch on the device.

Bell ringers taking donations for the campaign can be found at many locations around Johnson County and Central Indiana including Walmart, Sam’s Club, Kroger, Big Lots, JCPenney, Cabela’s, Walgreens, Emagine Theaters, Needler’s Fresh Market, Hobby Lobby and Simon Malls.
