Pedestrian in serious condition after being struck twice in Whiteland

A pedestrian is in serious condition after being struck twice by vehicles in the 2600 block of Whiteland Road.

Whiteland police and fire departments were called out at approximately 6 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a pedestrian struck. Preliminary reports show that a person was in the road attempting to stop traffic on Whiteland Road when they were struck, said Eric Funkhouser, Whiteland fire chief.

The person was first struck by a vehicle headed westbound and the impact of that crash threw the person into the path of an eastbound vehicle, he said.

Whiteland police were still at the scene at 8 p.m. investigating the incident and trying to piece together why the person was in the road, Funkhouser said.

The person was taken to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis in serious condition, he said. The identity of the person was not available for release Wednesday night.
