Blowing snow, extreme cold expected Friday, Saturday for Johnson County

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until Friday evening as accumulating snow and dangerous cold arrives.

Johnson County will remain under a Winter Storm Warning until 7 p.m. Friday. Heavy snowfall with total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches is expected by the time the warning expires, according to the National Weather Service.

Blowing snow is also expected as wind gusts could reach as high as 50 miles per hour, meteorologists say. This could significantly reduce visibility, and hazardous conditions could affect morning and evening commutes.

Dangerous cold is also expected and wind chills could reach as low as 35 degrees below zero. Temperatures are expected to drop more than 30 degrees in a matter of hours Thursday night, meteorologists say.
