Indy man accused of molesting relative in Greenwood

An Indianapolis man is facing a high level child molestation charge after police say he allegedly molested a child who is a relative.

Jared M. Huffman, 24, formerly of Greenwood, is charged with child molestation, a Level 1 felony, the highest crime a person can be charged with besides murder. He was arrested last week, and charges were formally filed Tuesday.

An investigation into Huffman began in early December, after the Department of Child Services received a report from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department about a child who was molested by a relative. The child told IMPD they were allegedly molested by Huffman for the “past several years” at a Greenwood home, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Johnson County Superior Court 2 on Tuesday.

Greenwood police spoke with the child in Indianapolis, who said that at some point in 2020 Huffman molested them. The child and Huffman would be in a basement together when Huffman would allegedly open an app with naked people on it. Huffman would allegedly grab the child, who was eight at the time, put his hands in their pants and touch them inappropriately, according to the affidavit.

Huffman and the child allegedly laid in bed together, and Huffman took his clothes off before making the child do so as well. He then allegedly touched the child inappropriately, and told them to not tell their parents, the affidavit says.

Police interviewed Huffman on Dec. 20, and he allegedly told police he believed the first incident occurred while was he drinking. He had hit a low point and didn’t care what happened, the affidavit says.

During the interview, Huffman allegedly admitted to touching the child inappropriately at least 10 times. He would also allegedly touch himself inappropriately, and during one incident he had the child touch his genitals, the affidavit shows.

Huffman allegedly told police he stopped molesting the child because he “knew it was wrong” and started reading the Bible, according to the affidavit.

Huffman was arrested and booked into the Johnson County jail the same day as his interview. His bond was set at $80,000, and he remains at the jail.
