Franklin man in stable condition after being hit by vehicle in Trafalgar

A Franklin bicyclist is in stable condition after being hit by a vehicle in Trafalgar Monday.

First responders were called to the 2700 block of State Road 135 around 6:38 p.m. Monday on a report of a pedestrian with a bicycle being struck. The accident occurred between State Road 44 and West County Road 300 South, according to the Trafalgar Fire Department.

The bicyclist, identified as Robert McTarsney, 50, of Franklin, was taken to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis in serious, but stable condition. He remains in stable condition as of Tuesday morning, according to officials.

Sheriff’s deputies say a white pickup truck was headed south on State Road 135 toward the Trafalgar Taco Bell when they noticed a police car in the northbound lanes stopped with emergency lights flashing. The truck driver slowed down and moved to the right when he allegedly struck McTarsney, according to the report.

McTarnsey was reported walking with a bicycle in the southbound lanes when he was struck. The truck driver stopped and made sure McTarsney was OK, the report says.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and the Trafalgar Police Department also responded to help investigate the crash.
