James Edward “Jim” Johnson

BARGERSVILLE, IN.

James Edward “Jim” Johnson, 86, surrounded by loved ones, peacefully went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday January 11, 2023. He was born August 20, 1936, in Connersville, IN to Joseph and Bernice (Scott) Johnson. In September, he and his wife Shirley (Funk) Johnson celebrated 53 years of marriage. If you asked him what made a happy marriage, he’d laugh and say, “remember who’s in charge”.

Jim graduated from Connersville High School, attended Indiana University Bloomington, and was a graduate of Hanover College. While he had dreams of being a coach, his career took a different path and he was a cost accountant for Western Electric in Indianapolis, IN for twenty years. Despite this turn, he continued to be an avid sports fan throughout his lifetime.

Jim was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin, IN, the Masonic Lodge, and Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, euchre, and IU basketball. He was a loyal Indianapolis Colts fan; he would often watch the Colts games with his son on speed dial to discuss the game play by play.

Family was very important to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald Johnson.

He is survived by his wife Shirley Johnson of Bargersville, IN, a daughter Tracy Toumi of Indianapolis, IN, a son Ken Johnson of Mooresville, IN, four grandchildren Ramzi Toumi, Marco Toumi, Wyatt Johnson, and Zoe Johnson. Jim was also a very proud uncle of six nephews and two nieces. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Reverend Dr. Andy Kinsey will conduct a celebration of life service Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 3PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 21, 2023, from 1PM until service time at the mortuary. Inurnment will take place at the columbarium at Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin, IN.
