Greenwood man accused of sexually assaulting minor

A Greenwood man is facing child sex crime charges after prosecutors say he had sex with a minor multiple times from 2019 to 2021.

David Lee Bailey, 36, is charged with sexual misconduct with a minor, a Level 4 felony. He was booked into the Johnson County jail on a warrant Monday afternoon.

Greenwood police began investigating Bailey last August after a man and woman reported that a teenage relative had allegedly been assaulted by Bailey several times. The incidents began when the teen was in 4th grade and continued until they were in 10th grade, according to a probable cause affidavit filed Friday in Johnson County Superior Court 3.

The teen told interviewers incidents took place in Mooresville, Camby, Indianapolis and Greenwood. The first incidents began in Camby when they were 12, according to the affidavit.

The Greenwood incidents began in November 2019 and lasted until February 2021. Bailey had allegedly assaulted the teen approximately 50 times at a Greenwood home, the affidavit says.

Some of the incidents took place in the bathroom, where Bailey would turn on the shower so that “nobody would hear.” On several occasions, a female relative would walk into rooms where Bailey was allegedly sexually assaulting the teen, the affidavit shows.

However, the relative did not do anything about it. She instead allegedly told the teen that no one would believe them and threatened to send another relative to foster care if the teen spoke up about it, the teen told investigators.

The teen also told investigators that during one incident they woke up to Bailey assaulting them. He would also allegedly body shame the teen and tell them to change their appearance, according to the affidavit.

There were also times where Bailey bought the teen pregnancy tests, telling them that if they were to get pregnant, they would raise the child like their sibling, the affidavit says.

Police spoke with the female relative who allegedly walked in on the teen being sexually assaulted by Bailey. She said they were at a loss for words, and denied walking in on Bailey assaulting the teen, the affidavit shows.

Bailey told detectives the accusations were false and said he thinks the teen is jealous that he took the female relative away from them. He and the teen were “the best of friends” prior to this, he told police.

Bailey was booked into the Johnson County jail on $6,600 bond. He remains at the jail as of Tuesday morning.
