New Whiteland
Edgar “Ed” M. Sanders, age 86, of New Whiteland, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at home accompanied by his wife and daughter. He was born on May 6, 1936, in Cincinnati, Ohio to Samuel P. and Amanda (Rose) Sanders.
Ed was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He married the love of his life, Brenda, in Cincinnati on July 22, 1961. They shared 62 years of loving marriage. He enjoyed music, and was particularly fond of Elvis, Ace Cannon, Boots Randolph, and the like. He also enjoyed classic cars, watching Westerns, especially John Wayne movies, spending time with his family and friends, and sitting outside with his wife on warm sunny days. Ed was a born-again Christian and was a member of Christian Chapel Church in Morgantown, Indiana.
Ed began his 50+ year restaurant career in the 1950’s as a teen working at the Little Chef Restaurant in Cincinnati, Ohio. He soon took a position at Frisch’s, where he and Brenda met. In 1964, Ed moved his family to New Whiteland, Indiana when he was hired as an assistant manager for the new Jerry’s Drive-In Restaurant on U.S. Hwy 31 in Greenwood. Ed is best remembered as Jerry’s Manager for over 30 years, where he became a much-liked and well-respected member of the Greenwood community. He later transitioned to working in food service at Franklin College until he retired in 2007.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Brenda; children, Cathy (Westman), Donna (Buchanan), Larry (Nina) Sanders, and Ken (Linda) Sanders; grandchildren, Jennifer, Angela, Broch, Bridget, Larry Jr., Blake, Baileigh, and Sarah. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Twyla (Norton) and Melba (Barker), his first wife Sandra (Thompson), son Billy Lee Adkins, and sons-in-law Don Chestnut and David Buchannan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Research Hospital.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 1:00pm at Jessen Funeral Home & Simple Cremation ~ Whiteland Chapel with visitation from 11:00am until the funeral hour. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Greenwood, Indiana.
