Boys basketball

Trojans get past Orioles

Jalen Bundy scored 19 points and Marcus Ankney added 17 as Class 4A No. 4 Center Grove — down by 12 points entering the fourth quarter — stormed back for a 61-56 home victory over Avon on Saturday night. Peyton Byrd contributed 10 points for the Trojans (16-1).

Lancers win at Hornets

Edinburgh picked up a 63-56 triumph at Henryville. Connor Ramey led the Lancers (11-5) with 16 points, followed by Jarrett Turner with 14 and Caleb Dewey with 11.

Cougars grab road win

Blake Shewmaker’s 26 points propelled Greenwood Christian to a 51-44 victory at Cardinal Ritter. Max Booher and Evan McIntire each added seven points for the Cougars (9-6).

Woodmen edged by Royals

Greenwood suffered a 39-34 home loss at Roncalli. Nolan Tunny scored 14 points for the Royals (7-9), followed by Drew Kegerreis with 12 and Trevor Lauck with 10.

Franklin College

Swimming and diving sweeps at home

Host Franklin College swept its regular-season finale against Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday, with the men wrapping an unbeaten campaign with a 198-84 rout and the women earning a 161-131 victory.

Caileigh McCafferty (50 and 100 free, 200 IM) and Samantha Phillips (200 and 500 freestyle, 200 butterfly) each took three individual events for the Grizzly women, while Kennedy Minter (100 fly) and Faith Jackson (1-meter diving) also had first-place finishes. On the men’s side, Jack Burke (100 back, 100 free, 200 IM) and Tyler Wood (1,000 free, 100 and 200 breaststroke) each won three events, Kosmo Wojack took both the 100 and 200 fly and Logan Parker (200 back), Campbell Coyle (50 free) and Gauge Creech (1-meter diving) were also winners.

Women’s basketball edged by Spartans

Despite career highs of 26 points from Jordan Coon and 17 rebounds from CiCi Bailey, Franklin College suffered a narrow 68-67 defeat at Manchester. The Grizzlies (8-11, 5-6 HCAC) also got 12 points from Maddie Barnes and 10 from Georgia Hanauer.

Men’s basketball falls short

Manchester stopped Franklin College’s five-game winning streak with an 80-67 victory. Cody Samples led the visiting Grizzlies (12-7, 8-4 HCAC) with 13 points in defeat, followed by Trey Flatt with 10.
