Edinburgh girls basketball eliminated by Morristown

Edinburgh was presented an opportunity to avenge a loss from 19 days earlier, but came up short.

Morristown defeated the Lancers, 53-17, in the opening round of the Class A sectional at Southwestern.

Edinburgh closes its season with a 6-18 record after losing its final 10 games.

The Yellow Jackets (13-10), meanwhile, move on to Friday night’s 7:30 semifinal against South Decatur (8-14). The opener at 6 features the host Spartans (6-16) facing Jac-Cen-Del (13-11).

Senior Gracie Crawhorn capped her career by leading the Lancers with eight points. Freshman Kenna Streeval added seven.

Edinburgh coach Amy Schilling played with only eight players the entire season, five of whom are ninth-graders. Nonetheless, she had hoped for a better performance against Morristown.

“We played hard all season. I hate to see it end that way because our shots weren’t falling and we made some lackadaisical passes,” Schilling said. “We played hard in instances, but Morristown just wanted it more.”

Senior guard Raegan Kleine led all scorers with 19 points for the Yellow Jackets, while sophomore center Danika Rutledge finished with 16.

Three of Edinburgh’s starters were freshmen, giving the program a promising foundation moving forward.

“We just had freshmen who had to learn to score at the varsity level,” Schilling said. “We definitely need to hit the weight room and get stronger, and just be committed in the offseason.”
