Posh partners: Franklin Jewelers, Coffeehouse Five work together on free event

The morning will be filled with glitz and glamour that would make Audrey Hepburn proud.

Diamonds, pearls and other gemstones will sparkle and shine, set against gold and silver. People can sample decadent breakfast cakes and coffee of all styles while oohing and aahing over necklaces, rings, earrings and other fine jewelry.

The whole scene has been inspired by “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.”

Coffeehouse Five has partnered with locally owned Franklin Jewelers to put on the elegant event designed to support local businesses on Saturday. “Breakfast with Franklin Jewelers” is an opportunity for people to come and shop for jewelry, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

“We hope people come out to see what Franklin has to offer,” said Josh Shanafelt, owner of Franklin Jewelers. “That’s what partnering between businesses grant all of us — to see what amazing opportunities Franklin has.”

The free showcase gives shoppers the opportunity to browse in a relaxed atmosphere, while enjoying what organizers are calling “karat” cakes and samples of coffee.

Besides being a unique way to spend a Saturday morning, the event is an opportunity to learn more about the two businesses.

“You get your coffee samples, you mingle, you shop for jewelry,” said Sally Manlove, social media and event coordinator for Coffeehouse Five. “It’s an opportunity for community building. When you’re in a small town, it’s important to just supporting those businesses that are really a part of the community and want to invests in being a part of that community.”

The event is an extension of Coffeehouse Five’s long-standing tradition of working with other locally-owned businesses in the community. Starting in Old Town Greenwood, and expanding to Franklin as well as downtown Bargersville, the coffee shop takes pride in partnering with others.

“Coffeehouse Five is pretty passionate about working in collaboration with other small businesses in the area. We identified Franklin Jewelers as one of those businesses — close in proximity, as well as just having similar missions of being in the community,” Manlove said.

Franklin Jewelers opened its doors in 2020. Shanafelt has grown up in Franklin, and wanted to have a business that was ingrained in the local community. In addition to focusing on new jewelry, he emphasized helping restore and repair treasured items people may bring in.

“With the passion I’ve had for jewelry for many years, I wanted to do everything that anyone wanted to do with their heirlooms right here in town,” he said. “There’s something about shipping things out that have so much sentimental value that terrifies me. So we wanted to have every service that people might have for jewelry and watches, and do it all right here.”

When Coffeehouse Five approached Shanafelt about partnering on an event, he enthusiastically agreed.

“I’ve been going over there with my wife for breakfast for years, and they have such a great space and have built such a wonderful brand,” he said. “It’s been so much fun going over there.”

In their discussions, organizers tried to figure out a way to spin coffee and jewelry into a singular theme. They landed on the “Breakfast in Tiffany’s” motif.

“People going to come and get free coffee samples and what we’re calling ‘karat’ cake samples and see the jewelry, seeing both businesses and hopefully having the community there but being cross-promotional for each other as well,” Manlove said.

Registration is not required for the event; people can pop in any time from 9 to 11 a.m. to browse. While they’re looking, guests can enter a drawing to win a pearl necklace valued at over $500, and possibly other items.

“We hope people discover some neat things about Coffeehouse Five that they didn’t know, and discover something about Franklin Jewelers, if they didn’t know we had a business like this in town,” Shanafelt said.
