New exhibit opens at Southside Art League

The name says it all.

With a deft hand and delicate touch, Shirley Woolard’s exhibition titled “People & Places” captures both a variety of portraits as well as landscapes through watercolor paint.

Woolard’s work will be on display throughout the month of February as the featured artist at the Southside Art League. The exhibition hangs until Feb. 25, with an artist reception from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday open to the public.

Woolard hails from western New York and graduated with a degree in advertising art and design. Though she has worked in the graphic arts field throughout her entire career, she started studying watercolor at the Indianapolis Art Center in the late 1990s.

Since that time, Woolard has studied watercolor under national artists in person as well as virtual workshops, and continues taking workshops. Her work is shown at The Gallery on the Square in Danville, where she is also a watercolor instructor.

She is a Cardinal Member and regional representative of the Watercolor Society of Indiana, belongs to the Southside Art League, the Hoosier Salon, the Indiana Artists Club and Kentucky Watercolor Society.

In 2022, she was awarded a prize at the Kentucky Watercolor Society’s Aqueous National Watercolor Exhibition, and won first prize at the 2023 Patron Show of the Brown County Art Guild.

“People & Places” can be viewed from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday at the Southside Art League’s Off Broadway Gallery, 299 E. Broadway St., Greenwood.
