Patricia A. (Smith) Sweeney, 94, of Franklin, IN and a former resident of Rochester, IN passed away Friday, February 3, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born June 4, 1928, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to Floyd and Flora (Portewine) Smith. She married Joseph P. Sweeney on July 4, 1959, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Alpena, Michigan and were happily married for 50 years; he preceded her in death on January 31, 2010. She was a widow for thirteen years.

She grew up in Alpena Michigan, was a 1945 graduate of St. Bernard Catholic School in Alpena, Michigan and a graduate of Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Michigan in elementary education.

Patricia loved traveling especially cruise ships where she enjoyed meeting new friends. She loved her children and grandchildren, and her greatest love was her Catholic faith.

She had been a grade schoolteacher. She later alongside her husband founded 92.1 W.R.O.I. FM in Rochester, IN in 1971 until 1983. They also had been the owners of the Tasty Q Restaurant in Rochester from 1980 until 1992.

She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Franklin, IN.

Survivors include her children Cheryl L. Sweeney Halik (William) of Franklin, IN, Michael P. Sweeney of Greenwood, IN and Maureen A. (Sweeney) McCoige (Douglas) of Osceola, IN, two grandchildren Ashley McCoige of Osceola, IN and Cassandra McCoige of Indianapolis, IN.

Her parents, husband, and a grandchild Jessica McCoige preceded Patricia in death.

Father Jim Farrell will conduct a service on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at 1:30 PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 8, 2023, from 12:30PM until service time at the mortuary. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, IN.

Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN is handling the arrangements.

No flowers were her request and rather do something nice for someone in need.
