GREENWOOD
Donald K. Mills, 92, of Greenwood, entered this world on August 31, 1930 as the fifth child of Freeman and Maxine (McHaffey) Mills. He was a happy and rambunctious child who always honored his family and friends, as well as God and his country.
Don was a true outdoorsman. He loved the serenity of boating and fishing on Lake Monroe as well as the rivers and streams. He also enjoyed the quiet times of mountains and oceans. He was an avid sports fan and enthusiastically coached the young athletes of Little and Pony League and the Y-Guys Football. He traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada, London and Tokyo.
Don was a member of Southport Heights Christian Church.
In 1976, Don initiated the “Southport High School Gary Mills Scholarship Fund” which continues today.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Joann (Shearin) Mills; sons, Michael Mills and Nicholas Mills; his sisters, Nancy White, and Barbara Denzio; several brothers and sisters in law; aunts, uncles; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and great cousins, all whom were very loved by Don, as well as children and dogs.
He was preceded in death by his son, Gary Mills; brothers, Freeman, Jim, and Max Mills, and Bill and John Evans; and sisters, Shirley Chrisman, and Virginia Driver.
Don’s family would like to thank the care staff of the Franciscan Health Network for their compassionate care.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023 from 1:00 pm until the time of service at 3:00 pm at G. H. Herrmann Funeral Home at The Gardens of Olive Branch, 1605 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, IN.
Don will be laid to rest in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to
Riley Hospital for Children or your local Humane Society.
