Drought condition removed for Johnson County

Johnson County is no longer in a drought, federal officials said Thursday.

In the U.S. Drought Monitor’s Weekly Update, the county was lowered from the “D0 – Abnormally Dry” category to the no drought category. The county had been under the abnormally dry category since January.

The Drought Monitor is a five-category system, with D0 – Abnormally Dry being the lowest category and D4 – Exceptional Drought being the highest category. Each weekly update uses data from the previous seven days to make the assessments.

Most of Indiana is considered as not being in a drought. However, there are some areas of northwestern, east-central and southeastern Indiana that still have abnormally dry conditions, federal officials say.
