Here’s the latest on I-69 construction on the southside

Work on the Smith Valley Road bridge over Interstate 69 will cause delays for Johnson County drivers this week.

Construction crews will pour a new bridge deck for the overpass starting around 5 a.m. Wednesday. The bridge deck is the last to be poured over State Road 37 in preparation for the completion of I-69 from Martinsville to Indianapolis, according to a construction update from the Indiana Department of Transportation.

The Smith Valley Road interchange is expected to be completed later this year. Drivers are cautioned to slow down while work takes place on the shoulder.

Additional work this week will take place in Marion County. Drivers can expect lane closures on Interstate 465 as construction crews strengthen the road’s shoulders and continue median work, INDOT officials say.

Construction on I-465 in preparation for it joining I-69 will ramp up in the coming weeks. Traffic will be limited to one lane from 8 a.m. March 10 to 5 a.m. March 13 on I-465 between Interstate 65 and Interstate 70 as workers shift westbound lanes to the north to prepare for an eastbound switch later in March.

The following weekend, from 8 p.m. March 17 to 5 a.m. March 20, eastbound I-465 will be restricted to one lane, with all I-465 traffic shifting to the westbound lanes. During that time, access to I-465 eastbound from I-70 eastbound, State Road 67/Kentucky Avenue, Mann Road, State Road 37 and both directions of U.S. 31 will close.

The work will allow construction crews to widen and rebuild I-465 eastbound, including a new bridge over the White River, INDOT officials say.

Construction dates and times are weather dependent and subject to change.
