UPDATE: I-65 South shut down due to serious crash near Franklin

UPDATE – 11:03 a.m.:

All lanes of Interstate 65 southbound between Whiteland and Franklin are now open. The road has been cleared of the accident, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.

UPDATE – 10:17 a.m.:

All lanes of Interstate 65 southbound between Whiteland and Franklin continue to be closed due to a serious accident involving a jack-knifed semi trailer, according to an update from the Indiana Department of Transportation.

The southbound lanes were expected to be for closed for an hour. Traffic is continuing to be diverted to the Whiteland exit.

Traffic is currently backed up from the Whiteland exit to just north of the Worthsville Road exit, according to INDOT.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Southbound lanes of Interstate 65 near Franklin are closed because of a serious accident Friday morning.

Local police and firefighters are currently working a serious accident near mile-marker 92 on I-65 southbound. This is near County Road 300 South, between the Franklin and Whiteland exists.

Traffic is being diverted off of I-65 at the Whiteland Road exit, according to Johnson County Public Safety Communications. The accident was reported around 8:44 a.m.

Officials ask drivers to avoid the area if possible.
