Poem to the Editor: Ode to indoor cats

To the Editor:

We love cats, indoors

Oh, our cats! How we love them!

Purrs on a lap, sounds so sweet,

Curls ‘round our legs, soft and warm.

Meow loud, “I want to EAT!”

“DomestiCATted,” stay home!

Tame you are, tame you must be.

Cat, oh, no, pleeeese – Never roam,

Dangers for you, anger for me.

There are hawks and coyotes.

Cars and even an eagle!

Unsafe things threaten, so, please –

Don’t freeze, fight, get ill, feeble.

No pee on chairs or patios!

Half buried in mulch, no turds!

No mating screams at windows!

At my door, leave no dead birds!

No more! Go home, I implore!

I love cats. Love your cats indoors.
