Robert ‘Bob’ Scellato

Mr. Robert ‘Bob’ Scellato, Bargersville, went Home to be with the Lord on the early morning of Friday, March 3, 2023. He was 82. Bob was born October 10, 1940 in Norfolk, Virginia, a son of the late Anthony and Edith (Gardiner) Scellato.

Bob was a graduate of Maury High School in Norfolk and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from the Norfolk Division of the College of William and Mary, now Old Dominion University. He had been employed with Central Indiana Trane as the service manager and retired in 1999 after 35 years of service.

Bob was a remarkable man of exceptional abilities and talents. He was an entrepreneur, having a keen eye for business opportunities. Bob, along with his family, had been involved in most every aspect of farming. He ran farming operations in Johnson County as well as an operation in Narrandera, New South Wales, Australia.

Bob had also owned and managed, with the assistance of his wife, apartment buildings in the Franklin area for many years. In all of Bob’s successes, he took extreme joy in assisting other young men get their start in business. He did so much behind the scenes and preferred it that way as he was never after any recognition. A very giving man, Bob loved helping others and was known for his spirit of generosity.

Above all else, Bob loved the Lord Jesus Christ and put his faith and trust in Him. Bob attended and was an integral part of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Greenwood and he was instrumental in the founding and establishing of Gracepoint Church in Whiteland. He was a very loyal and faithful member and had unselfishly served both congregations in several capacities.

Bob enjoyed being outdoors in nature and spent some of his leisure time playing golf and fishing. He was a captivating story teller and shared them in vivid detail.

Bob deeply loved his family and extended family and looked forward to the time they could spend together. He would tell you they were his greatest accomplishment.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Beverly (Urps) Scellato; his sons, Zachary (Heather) Scellato and Anthony (Birdie) Scellato; his grandchildren, Lily Scellato (fiance, Nicholas Safanyuk), Gabriella Scellato, Dominick Scellato, Rose Scellato, Holly Scellato and Zachary James Scellato; his siblings, Elinor Merwin and David (Barbara) Scellato; a special niece, Kathy (Bob) DeVivo as well as several other nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in passing by his sister, Ruby Outten and several cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm, Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Gracepoint Church, 330 W. Whiteland Road, Whiteland, IN. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of service Thursday at the church.

For those choosing to make a memorial contribution in Bob’s honor, the family has suggested those be offered to Gracepoint Church or the Leukemia Foundation.
