Noma Amaryllis Dougherty

WHITELAND, INDIANA

Noma Amaryllis (Watts) Dougherty, 91, slipped peacefully into the arms of Jesus while surrounded by family at her home on Monday, March 6, 2023.

Amaryllis was born on April 13, 1931, in Ambia, Indiana. She is the daughter of Jerome Watts and Florence Katherine (Goodpasture) Watts.

On January 21, 1951, she married Joseph Dougherty in Greenwood, IN. He preceded her in death on November 20, 2013.

She is lovingly remembered by four children, Ryllis (Tim) Blackwell of Trafalgar, Jerrel (Julia) Dougherty of Whiteland, Kathy (Harold) Floyd of Morgantown, and Joy (Mark) McClain of Whiteland, daughter-in-law, Renee Dougherty of Greenwood, as well as sixteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Dawn Jahn of Indianapolis, and Twanette (Earnest) Mathis of Columbus, IN.

Amaryllis graduated from Whiteland High School. A member of Rocklane Christian Church for over seventy years, her faith was the cornerstone of her life. Employed for twenty-three years in the cafeteria by Clark-Pleasant Schools, she also operated Dougherty Produce for twenty-five years with her beloved husband where she was known for delicious, sweet breads and rolls. A woman of resilience and adventure she learned to ice skate in her fifties and backpacked the Knobstone Trail in her sixties. She was an avid card player, reader (Zane Grey Westerns being a lifelong favorite) and crocheted countless afghans for friends/family and women’s shelters. She considered her children and grandchildren the jewels in her crown. Amaryllis left her family a rich heritage?the lasting bequests of roots and wings.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Mavis Talu Doyle, an infant brother, son, Dan Dougherty, granddaughter, Aleta Hurm, and grandsons Chase Ford and Benjamin Rabensteine.

Pastor Seth Amerine will conduct funeral services at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 13, 2023, at Rocklane Christian Church in Greenwood with a private entombment to be held at a later date. Friends and family may visit from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Sunday, March 12 and from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Monday, March 13 at Rocklane Church.
