Bud & Patty Renner

BROWNSBURG AND FORMERLY OF MORGAN COUNTY

Millard (Bud) Renner, born December 21, 1934, passed away on September 7, 2022, at the age of 87. Patricia (Patty) Renner his wife and lifelong companion, born September 21, 1935, passed away March 2, 2023, at the age of 87, less than six months after Bud’ passing. Bud and Patty met in Morgantown High School as young teenagers and were inseparable. They married soon after Patty’s graduation from high school in September 1954. Bud passed away just days short of their 68th wedding anniversary. Bud was a career public servant for the citizens of the State of Indiana. He began his employment as a member of the Indiana Department of Highways in 1955 and later moved to the State Board of Accounts. Bud’s work as an examiner for the State Board of Accounts brought him to the attention of future governor Edgar Whitcomb. When Governor Whitcomb was elected and assumed his office in January 1969, he appointed Bud as his Commissioner for the Department of Administration.

At the conclusion of Whitcomb’s administration Bud returned to the Board of Accounts but was called on again to aid another governor. Governor Robert Orr tapped Bud to serve in both his administrations and terms of office, initially as the Commissioner of the Department of Revenue and later serving as the Chief Examiner for the State Board of Accounts.

For his service to both Governor Whitcomb and Governor Orr, Bud was honored by each with the designation of Sagamore of the Wabash. For his years of service and leadership with the State Boards of Accounts he was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2022.

Patty, in the early part of their marriage was a stay-at-home mother and homemaker. When their youngest child reached school age, Patty began work for Blue Cross Blue Shield in the claims department and retired from there after 20 years of service. When free time allowed, she loved sewing, oil painting, sitting by the pool, and having chocolate!

They are survived by their four children, Mark (Becki), Brian (Peggy), Kristiann McGrew (Mike Moloy), and Belinda (Jeff) Hudson; grandchildren, PJ (Jaci) McGrew, Courtney (Brandon) Strotman, Christopher (Amanda) McGrew, Erik (Jana) Renner, Danielle (Jeremy) Magda, Jessica (C.J.) Bechtel, Matthew (Chelsey Lang) Renner, Nick (Amelia) McGrew, and Stephanie Renner; nephew, Andrew (Beth) Cline; niece, Cindy (Brian) Stewart, sixteen great grandchildren and counting with one expected in early fall and several great nieces and nephews.

In their retirement Bud and Patty doted on their grandchildren and great grandchildren; they were a great source of pride and kept them active in their later years.

Bud and Patty insisted that no funerals be held, but that a Celebration of Life be held once both were gone. In accordance with these desires, a celebration to honor their lives is scheduled for the evening of Saturday April 29th from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm, in the Homestead Room of The Sycamore at Mallow Run Winery, Bargersville, Indiana.

Everyone who knew Bud and Patty and wishes to celebrate their lives are welcome.

Arrangements were entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown.
