Daniel J. Casey

Greenwood

Daniel J. Casey, of Greenwood, passed away on March 20, 2023. He was born on September 4, 1931, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, to Francis and Helen Casey. He attended Stratford High School where he played quarterback on the varsity football team. After graduating in the spring of 1948 from Stratford High School, Daniel enlisted in the US Army and was ordered to Aschaffenburg, Germany where he was stationed until 1952. While in the Army Daniel was able to continue his football career playing military teams overseas. In December 1952, Staff Sergeant Daniel Casey was transferred back to the US. He was discharged the morning of Christmas Eve 1952, flew to NY, was given a ride by a stranger (because he was in uniform) from NY to Stratford, CT and made it home in time to spend Christmas Day with his mother. The next day he visited his girlfriend Marguerite Supko of Bullard Court in Stratford. He was offered the opportunity to play football at the University of Michigan but chose instead to get married to Marguerite and start a family. Together they enjoyed over 67 years of marriage.

Daniel was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Barnabas Catholic Church, Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, and served as the Holy Name of Jesus School Board President in Beech Grove. He was most recently a member of Saints Francis and Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church in Greenwood. His father was the owner of Kool Vent Sales & Service Corporation of Indiana when Daniel moved to Indianapolis to work for him in 1953. He became the owner and president when his father passed away in 1986. Daniel retired in 1998.

Daniel passionately enjoyed Notre Dame Football, especially under Lou Holtz. He watched Friday night Center Grove football games live streamed on the big screen on Erin’s back patio around the fire pit. He attended all his grandchildren’s games, activities and dance recitals. Everyone knew him as Grandpa Dan and expected to see him and Grandma on the sidelines cheering on their favorite team. And he also was the family grand dog walker.

He is survived by his daughter: Erin M. (Philip) Chamberlin; sons: Paul B. (Marcia) Casey; Sean F. (Ellen) Casey; as well as eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife: Marguerite M. Casey; and sons: Daniel J. Casey, Jr., Joseph M. Casey; siblings: Frances H. Stodolink, Mary A. Hilton and Donald M. Casey.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of Funeral Mass at 12:00 p.m. at Saints Francis & Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, 5901 West Olive Branch Rd, Greenwood. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Indianapolis.
