Shepherd tied for 23rd at ANWA

Center Grove graduate Erica Shepherd shook off a rocky start and finished the opening round of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur with a 2-over-par 74 at Champions Retreat on Wednesday.

Shepherd, now a senior at Duke, started off the 10th tee and bogeyed three of her first four holes. She birdied the par-5 18th hole but then began her back side with bogeys on 1 and 2 to slide to 4 over par before collecting a birdie on the par-5 third and closing with another on the par-5 ninth.

The top 30 players plus ties after today’s second round will advance into the final round on Saturday at Augusta National. Shepherd is tied for 23rd, eight shots behind leader Rose Zhang but just four strokes out of fourth place.
