INDOT to begin work on SR 252, traffic reopens on Stones Crossing

State Road 252

There will be a flagging operation starting on or after Monday between Amity and Trafalgar on State Road 252, according to a traffic alert from the Indiana Department of Transportation.

The $2.5 million contract for the project was awarded to Milestone Contractors LP. The project area stretches from approximately 7.5 miles east of U.S. 31 to State Road 135, INDOT officials say.

The restrictions will be in effect daily from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. through the end of July, weather permitting.

The restricted area will move along the path of the road as crews progress through the project. This will allow crews to safely perform a patching and resurfacing project, INDOT officials say.

Stones Crossing

The intersection of Stones Crossing Road and Saddle Club Road was set to reopen at around 5 p.m. Thursday afternoon, following the start of the installation of a new water main in preparation for the Johnson County Highway Department’s roundabout project.

Work is still going on in the area, but the remaining work on the water main can continue under traffic. During this time the contractor may need to temporarily close one lane of traffic to perform work operations, according to Crossroads Engineers, the engineering firm working on the project with the county.

If this is necessary, flaggers will be in place to move vehicles through the work zone. There are no other full intersection closures scheduled for the water main portion of the work, according to Crossroads Engineers.

In June and July, the road construction contractor will be allowed to close the intersection for around 60 days to complete the road reconstruction and roundabout work. This work is scheduled during summer break to minimize the impact on Center Grove schools, according to Crossroads Engineers.
