Rev. Edward Tharpe

TRAFALGAR

Rev. Edward B. Tharpe, age 73, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Friday morning, March 31, 2023 at his home in Trafalgar.

Ed was born April 11, 1949 in Franklin to his parents, the late Walter James and Josephine (Hamilton) Tharpe. He attended Trafalgar High School and married his sweetheart, Linda L. Schoolcraft on August 10, 1968 in Martinsville. They began a life together and were blessed with three children, Allen, Lora and Lynn.

Ed was the owner/operator of Morgan Monroe Construction Supply in Morgantown for several years and prior to that, he worked in construction sales. He was a member of the Franklin First Separate Baptist Church. Ed was a servant of God and evangelized God’s word through several ministries during his life. Ed served as the minister for the Mid-Way Separate Baptist Church, Salem Separate Baptist Church, Franklin First Separate Baptist Church, Mt. Zion Church and most recently served at the Okolona Separate Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky. In his free time, he enjoyed reading his bible, serving as a Sunday School Teacher and traveling on mission trips to the Ivory Coast of West Africa.

He also enjoyed watching Indiana University Basketball and the Chicago Cubs. Most of all, Ed loved spending time with his family, and will be remembered most for his love of his grandchildren, love of people and his unyielding faith in God.

Ed will be missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Linda L. Tharpe of Trafalgar; children, Allen Tharpe of Trafalgar, Lora (Daniel) Sink of Morgantown and Lynn (Matt) Stephenson of Whiteland; grandchildren, Megan (Joe) Holt of Greenwood, Morgan Sink of Morgantown, Lane, Candace and A.J. Stephenson of Whiteland; 2 great grandchildren Ezekiel and Selah Holt; siblings, Betty Jo Weddle of Morgantown, Suzan (Wayne) Brown of Franklin and Ernie Tharpe of Morgantown, as well as several brothers and sisters in Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim Tharpe, and infant granddaughter Ella Stephenson.

Pastor Jerry Ridge and Rev. Eddie Freeman will conduct a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 4th at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. on Monday, April 3rd at the funeral home. Ed will be laid to rest at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
