Clark-Pleasant schools closed Tuesday and Wednesday

Clark-Pleasant school buildings will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday as the Whiteland community continues to recover from a tornado.

Although students were scheduled to come back from spring break, school district officials canceled Monday’s classes amid the devastation from an EF-3 tornado that hit Whiteland late Friday, destroying 16 homes. School leaders have decided to postpone the return to classrooms until at least Thursday for elementary school students and until at least Monday for high school and middle school students, according to a news release from Clark-Pleasant schools.

The school buildings do not have any internet connection because of tornado damage, and school officials haven’t received an estimate on when a connection will be restored, the release said.

As of Monday afternoon, school officials plan for school to be canceled Tuesday and Wednesday, with elementary school students returning to classrooms Thursday. Middle and high school students will be eLearning Thursday and Friday. Clark-Pleasant Early Learning Center will not have classes for the rest of the week, according to the release.

“Elementary instruction is less reliant on these connections and our modified schedule will keep high school traffic out of the area, which is still very busy with emergency personnel, utility contractors, road closures and various other cleanup activities,” Superintendent Patrick Spray said in the release. “We have been asked specifically to keep traffic in the high school area to a minimum.”

Parents should keep an eye out for updates on the ParentSquare platform, school officials said.
