Today is last day to register to vote

Today is the last day for residents to register to vote in the May 2 primary election.

Under Indiana law, legal adults who are U.S. citizens are eligible to vote as long as they meet certain criteria.

To register, a resident must:

  • be a U.S. citizen and an Indiana resident;
  • have resided in their voting precinct at least 30 days before the next election;
  • be at least 18 years old on the day of the election;
  • not currently be in prison after being convicted of a crime.

Residents can go online to register at indianavoters.in.gov, and must do so by midnight.

The Johnson County Courthouse is closed today due to exterior damage and power outages caused by the storms over the weekend. Residents will not be able to register to vote in person there today. If they need to register in person, can still go to any license branch.

Those who were already registered are encouraged to check their registrations, at indianavoters.in.gov.

Early voting begins on April 17. The deadline for absentee ballot applications is noon on April 20, and applications can apply online at indianavoters.in.gov or apply in person at Johnson County Voter Registration at the courthouse.
