Whiteland officials rescind curfew order

Whiteland officials on Thursday rescinded the town curfew.

In response to reports of theft and trespassing, Town Council President Joe Saylor issued the Nighttime Travel Restriction, or curfew, on Monday but rescinded it Thursday afternoon. The order was at the request of Police Chief Rick Shipp and Fire Chief Eric Funkhouser and to prevent nighttime trespass, theft and property damage to unoccupied and storm-damaged homes.

The order was originally set to be in effect until April 9, but officials ended the curfew order a few days ahead of schedule.

Whiteland police will be doing extra patrols in areas with storm damage to prevent looting, town officials said on Facebook.

Town officials have also established a helpline for residents who need help or want to help people impacted by the storm. For the helpline, people can call or text 317-671-6521 or email [email protected].

People can get help in person at the Clark-Pleasant Administration Building at 50 Center St., Whiteland.
