College notebook: Bonser wins hammer throw for UIndy

University of Indianapolis sophomore Emily Bonser, a Greenwood graduate, won the hammer throw with a personal best of 49.95 meters at the Knight Open track and field event at Marian University.

Greenwood

UIndy softball swept doubleheaders at home against Truman and Quincy with Greyhounds junior Dominique Proctor contributing a total of five hits and driving in five runs. Senior Lexy Rees went for extra bases on all four of her hits with three doubles and a home run.

Freshman left fielder Anna Pritchett scored one of Marian’s runs in an 8-3 victory at Indiana Wesleyan in the second game of a softball doubleheader. She scored two runs in the Knights’ 11-2 win over Taylor.

Indiana Wesleyan junior Ethan Gray won matches at No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles as the Wildcats’ men’s tennis squad defeated Judson, 6-1.

Center Grove

Freshman Luke Beetz and sophomore Brandon Heffner tied for 29th overall with two-round scorse of 155 as the Marian men’s golf team finished fourth of 10 teams at the Midway Spring Invitational.

Duke senior Erica Shepherd now owns a career match-play record of 14-6-1 after helping the Blue Devils down North Carolina in the final round of the Wolfpack Invitational.

Indiana Wesleyan men’s tennis downed Judson, 6-1, with Wildcats senior Trey Thixton winning his No. 5 singles match in three sets and getting another victory at first doubles.

Indiana baseball captured two of three games at Penn State, with freshman second baseman Tyler Cerny getting a homer and single in the finale, a 22-11 Hoosiers win. He doubled in IU’s 4-0 loss at Indiana State.

Franklin College designated hitter Anthony Smith singled and stole a base in the Grizzlies’ 13-6 defeat of visiting Hanover. Senior pitcher Jackson Young got the win in an 18-8 win over Hanover, going 5 2/3 innings, permitting 10 hits and striking out six.

Junior Bryce Eblin drove in three runs for the Alabama baseball squad in a 10-2 triumph over visiting Troy.

St. Leo first baseman Mike Wyman singled and scored a run in a 4-3 win at Nova Southeastern.

Junior pitcher Grant Herron struck out 10 batters in five innings for Morehead State in its 10-7 victory over visiting Tennessee Tech.

Southern Indiana catcher Lexi Fair drove in a pair of runs as the Eagles defeated visiting Tennessee Martin, 8-2.

Northwestern softball won two of three games at Iowa, with senior catcher Jordyn Rudd finishing the series with two hits and two runs driven in.

Louisville junior sprinter Kiyah Yeast continues to lower her personal best in the 100-meter dash, running a time of 11.62 seconds at the Texas Relays. She was also part of the 4×100 relay that finished with a time of 45.03 seconds.

Whiteland

Morehead State senior pitcher Luke Helton worked the first 6 2/3 innings in a 4-3 win over visiting Tennessee Tech, allowing six hits and striking out five.

Franklin

The Taylor men’s golf team won the 14-team Purgatory Intercollegiate, with senior Javan Johnson carding a 73 to tie for third place individually. The women’s squad was fifth of 14 teams at the Roadrunner Classic, with sophomore Ellie Beavins posting a three-round total of 236.

Freshman Ava Ray shot scores of 82 and 71 to tie for sixth overall as University of Indianapolis women’s golf won the 12-team NC4K invitational.

Indian Creek

Freshman pinch runner Emily Todor scored a run for Butler softball in a 10-0 shutout of Creighton.
