Warriors overpower Woodmen

Down 3-1 after four innings, Whiteland scored 11 runs over the last three frames to finish out a 12-3 victory over Greenwood on Saturday. Winning pitcher Kiley Sullivan helped her own cause by going 4 for 5 with four RBIs for the Warriors (4-1, 2-0 Mid-State), while Josslyn Harbert had three hits, Halle Nett drove in three runs and Maddie Myers hit a two-run homer. The Woodmen were led by Taylor Dick, who went 3 for 4.

Trojans take two of three

Class 4A No. 2 Center Grove cruised to 10-0 and 14-0 wins over Decatur Central and Chesterton at the Horseshoe Classic before being defeated by host Pendleton Heights, 5-3, in the championship game. The Trojans fall to 5-1 on the season with the loss.

Center Grove wins own invite

Host Center Grove came out on top in the Trojan Classic on Saturday, blanking Whiteland 5-0 and pulling out a 3-2 win over Mt. Vernon. Sloane Small won both of her matches at third singles, and the Trojans’ doubles teams — Ava Beecher and Aliyeh Boyer at No. 1, Anna Runkle and Peri Small at No. 2 — were also perfect on the day. The Warriors (0-4) also lost a 5-0 match against Terre Haute South.

Trojans open season at Yorktown

Center Grove went 10 players deep in its season-opening tournament, with its Red and White teams placing second and third at the Yorktown Invitational on Saturday. Brady Schier and Brody Holubar tied for second individually with rounds of 72 to pace the Red squad (299), which also got a 77 from Nathan Springer and a 78 from James Beetz. The White team (311) was led by Carson Poe’s 74 and a 77 from Drew Hardin.

Meanwhile, the Trojans’ Black team shot 312 to finish ahead of Roncalli (319) and Franklin (323) to win the Greenwood Invitational at The Legends. Noah Parsetich and Evan Dunkle each carded a 77 for the Trojans, while Coen Bauschek added a 78. Kadin Gibson paced the Grizzly Cubs with a 74.

Baseball sweeps Ravens

Franklin College remained in a tie atop the HCAC standings, running its win streak to eight games by sweeping a Saturday doubleheader at Anderson, 11-3 and 13-2. Sean Sullivan homered in both games and had six RBIs on the day for the Grizzlies (17-6, 7-1), while Matt Earley, Jonathan LaGuire and Colby Reed also went deep in the opener.

With the two wins, Grizzlies coach Lance Marshall now has 598 for his career entering Wednesday’s home twinbill against DePauw.

Softball splits doubleheader

After taking a 5-3 loss in the front end of its Saturday doubleheader against Anderson, Franklin College bounced back to salvage a split with a 7-2 win in the nightcap. Molly Wallace drove in two runs in support of winning pitcher Stephanni Kleber for the Grizzlies (18-8, 1-3 HCAC) in the nightcap, while Annie Kluemper and Sydney Rodeghier added three hits apiece.

Women’s lax crushes Hanover

Victoria Simmons scored six goals as Franklin College set a new school single-game scoring record with a 21-3 rout of Hanover on Saturday. Anya Glodowski and Bella Frye each contributed five goals for the Grizzlies (4-4, 1-0 HCLC).
