Boys golf

Trojans dominate Plainfield

Nathan Springer fired a nine-round score of 33, and Brady Schier and James Beetz both carded 34s as Center Grove defeated Plainfield, 138-175. Other Trojan players breaking 40 were Carson Poe with a 37 and Drew Hardin with a 39, while Brady Holubar and Coen Bauschek each had 41, and Noah Parsetich a 42.

Greenwood prevails against Pioneers

Greenwood used the medalist-worthy 35 of Jahlen Burton to defeat Mooresville at Heartland Crossing in a match ultimately decided by a fifth-score tiebreaker. Other Woodmen scores were Drew Dhondt with a 43, Davis Arthur’s 44, Blake Roscoe with a 48 and Braden Chase’s 49.

Baseball

Warriors drop conference battle

Whiteland lost, 1-0, at Plainfield in Mid-State Conference action as David Collins and Kevin Denham picked up hits for the Warriors. Pitcher Drew Helton struck out seven batters in his six innings.

Falcons top Grizzly Cubs

Host Perry Meridian pounded out 10 hits in defeating Franklin, 8-1, in Mid-State Conference action. Blake Smythe contributed half the Cubs’ hits with three, including a solo home run.

Softball

Trojans win at Shelbyville

Junior pitcher Riley Henson went the distance, allowing four hits and striking out 10 batters, as Class 4A No. 2 Center Grove won at Shelbyville, 3-1. Leadoff hitter Hannah Haberstroh, third baseman Brynn Meyer and left fielder Mae Munson had two hits apiece for the Trojans, with Haberstroh scoring two of the runs.

Royals dominate at Brebeuf

Pitcher Avery Clark struck out nine batters, and three Roncalli players — Lauren Marsicek, Kendra Clark and Eva Hurrle – produced two hits apiece as the Royals scored a 19-1 win at Brebeuf in five innings. Kendra Clark hit a grand slam, while Hurrle and Anna Dressman also produced round-trippers.

Girls tennis

Grizzly Cubs remain perfect

Seventh-ranked Franklin scored a 5-0 shutout at Perry Meridian as singles players Rylie Wilkison, Chelsie Rayl and Emma Williams won their matches handily. The same held true in doubles, with the No. 1 tandem of Ailyn Hendricks and Marnie Moore, and No. 2 team of Kate Pinnick and Kennedy Urban winning decisively as the Grizzly Cubs improved to 5-0.

Trojans too much for Bulldogs

Center Grove defeated Brownsburg by a score of 4-1. Notching wins for the Trojans were Lauren Dick at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1; Val Arriz at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-1 and No. 3 singles player Sloane Small, 6-0, 6-0. Also victorious was the second doubles duo of Anna Runkle and Peri Small, 6-7, 6-1, 10-7.

Indian Creek slips past Woodmen

Visiting Indian Creek won a 3-2 decision at Greenwood, as No. 3 singles player Kylie Lemmon won her match. The Braves doubles teams picked up the other two points with Olivia Perry and Addy Tunnell winning the No. 1 match and Lanie Swanson and Alexa Sichting doing so at No. 2. Winning for the Woodmen were Maggie Boyce and Brooklyn Hanson at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively.

Roncalli trips up Dragons

Roncalli won at home against New Palestine, 4-1, as Rebecca Zakrowski and Lily Rutherford were victorious in singles play. Both Royals doubles pairings picked up wins, as Elsie Kerr and Marisa Morwick won the No. 1 match, and Thalia Guzman and Evie Eble took care of business in the second spot.

Cathedral too much for Grizzly Cubs

Franklin lost to Cathedral, three sets to one. Zach Newton had nine kills for the Cubs, and Jacob Miller adding five. Charlie Sanders finished with 15 assists, with Kaden Baltimore’s 14 digs and a pair of service aces from Cole Hufford.
