INDIANAPOLIS

William R. Margason, 83, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away Sunday, April 9, 2023.

William was born on Tuesday, August 8, 1939, in Franklin, Indiana.

William enlisted into the United States Air Force on September 25, 1959, in Franklin, Indiana and served 4 years and was honorably discharged on September 24, 1963, from Dow Air Force Base, Maine. He was proud of his time in the Air Force and was a very patriotic man.

On January 7, 1962, William married Sandra L. Edmonds and spent the next 61 years together. William was a skilled wood worker and made many items over the year such as toy boxes, shelves, curtain rods, and even a bench that his wife still uses to this day. He was a Boy Scout Leader for several years. He took the Webelos camping, fishing, earning badges and taught them how to fold, display and dispose of flags. William also enjoyed the History Channel, especially the Civil War. He made a trip to Gettysburg with his son Bill and enjoyed the time they had together.

William is survived by his wife, Sandy Margason; children, Barbara Greene (Danny), Bill Margason (Jenny); brothers, Larry Smith (Carol), Jerry Smith (Cami); grandchildren, Zachary Greene (Jessica), Leana Greene, Robby Margason (Alex), Tyler Margason, Samantha Margason; and great grandsons, Liam Margason and Ryan Greene.

On Easter morning William waited for his son and grandson to pick him up from rehab to go home for the day. He got to see his wife, children, and their spouses, all the grandchildren and great grandsons, who he met Ryan for the first time ever. He had a full day of being with everyone that he loved dearly. Late that afternoon he asked his granddaughter Samantha to recline his recliner, which she did, and he nestled in. When most of the family had left for the day William left this world HIS way at 5:15 pm, home and with family. He will be missed dearly.
