Historic Artcraft Theatre closed for the rest of April

The Historic Artcraft Theatre will be closed through the end of this month as workers make repairs to the building.

Following storms on March 31, the theatre sustained structural damage. The west side of the building’s roof, and the structure above the stage need to be repaired immediately, according to a Facebook post by the theatre.

After the damage was discovered, Artcraft officials canceled events and closed the theater through mid-April. However, the theatre announced on Wednesday would be closed for the rest of April, following further review of an engineering assessment.

In order for mason to do the repair work that is needed, a massive scaffold will need to be temporarily installed. The scaffold will span the roof the width of the auditorium, the post says.

All events scheduled for this month at the Artcraft are being rescheduled. Those who purchased tickets online are being notified with options for what to do next. Anyone who purchased tickets in person are asked to hold on to them and bring them to the will-call office. Office hours for in-person are 12:30 to 5 p.m. Wednesday to Friday, the post says.

The Daily Journal’s group travel information session originally set to take place at the Artcraft on April 19 will now take place at 3 p.m. on April 19 at the Johnson County Museum of History. People who have RSVP’d are being notified of the new event time and location.

Artcraft officials say anyone who wants to donate to the Artcraft Theatre general fund while they await final insurance analysis can go to bit.ly/FHIGFund.
