Franklin College

Baseball helps Marshall win 600th

Lance Marshall picked up his 600th career coaching victory on Saturday as Franklin College won at Mount St. Joseph, 11-9 and 8-3. Jonathan LaGuire hit a go-ahead homer and A.J. Sanders had two triples, including one with the bases loaded, in the opener for the Grizzlies (20-7, 9-1 HCAC), while Jackson Young threw eight innings to win the nightcap, scattering six hits.

Offense explodes in softball sweep

Franklin College totaled 25 hits in a doubleheader sweep at Bluffton, winning by scores of 14-1 and 12-3. Ravyn McClaren had three hits and four RBIs in the first game for the Grizzlies (20-8, 3-3 HCAC), while Annie Kluemper and Eriana Wagner each homered in the second.

Women’s lax takes third straight

Franklin College won for the third time in a row, rolling to a 17-2 victory at Mount St. Joseph. Anya Glodowski, Adkins, Simmons and Baleigh Riddle each scored three goals for the Grizzlies (5-4, 2-0 HCLC), while goaltender Riley Rice made four saves.

Girls tennis

Braves take two on road

Indian Creek picked up 4-1 victories over Northview and West Vigo at Edgewood on Saturday. Both doubles teams (Olivia Perry/Addy Tunnell and Lanie Swanson/Alexa Sichting) were perfect on the day for the Braves (4-2, 2-1 WIC), while Reese Tunell took both of her matches at second singles, including a three-set comeback win.

Center Grove splits in Jasper

No. 10 Center Grove defeated McCracken County (Kentucky) at the Jasper Invitational on Saturday, 3-2, while dropping a 4-1 to the No. 3 Wildcats. Sloane Small won both of her matches at No. 3 singles for the Trojans.

Royals suffer first loss

Roncalli was edged by Guerin Catholic, 3-2. Becca Zakrowski was a winner at No. 1 singles for the Royals (3-1), while Elsie Kerr and Marisa Morwick took a point at first doubles.

Boys golf

Trojans third, fourth at home

Center Grove hosted the Trojan Classic on Saturday at Hickory Stick, with the Red and White teams placing third and fourth, respectively. James Beetz had the Trojans’ low round with a 72, while Nathan Springer and Coen Bauschek each had a 75. The Black team tied for 10th in the 18-team field for Center Grove, which had 11 of its 15 players shoot 79 or better.

Franklin placed eighth with a team score of 321, led by Kadin Gibson’s 75.

Roncalli competes at Highland

Led by a 77 from Nathan Fikes, Roncalli posted a team score of 325 at the Highland Invite.

Softball

Trojans sweep doubleheader

Class 4A No. 2 Center Grove took both halves of a Saturday twinbill against ninth-ranked Penn, winning by scores of 9-3 and 7-5. Riley Henson and Aiyana Keown were the winning pitchers for the Trojans (10-1).

Baseball

Grizzly Cubs rout Olympians

Blake Smythe was the winning pitcher and helped his cause with a home run and four RBIs in a 10-3 win at Columbus East on Saturday. Caleb Funkhouser drove in two runs for the Grizzly Cubs (6-3), while Lane McElyea scored twice.

Warriors drop a pair

Whiteland lost two games against visiting Tri-West, taking 7-5 and 13-9 setbacks. Maalik Perkins had five hits and four RBIs on the day for the Warriors (2-6).

Cougars come up short

Greenwood Christian traveled to Warren Central on Saturday, suffering a 7-0 defeat to fall to 5-3-1 on the season.

Track and field

Roncalli eighth at Ben Davis

Led by a first-place effort in the shot put relay from Seth Brosseau and Trevor Lauck, Roncalli finished eighth at the Ben Davis Invitational on Saturday.
