Amber Keziah Powell

Amber Keziah (Emmons) Powell, age 71 passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, April 13, 2023 at Hickory Creek in Franklin. She was a 40+ year resident of Brown County.

Amber was born on February 24, 1952 in Vincennes, to her parents the late Nathan Leo and Mary “Carolyn” (Hutcheson) Emmons. She was part of the first graduating class of South Putnam High School in 1969 and later studied at Franklin College in social work in her 40’s.

Amber married David James “Jim” Powell on November 5, 1971 at the Baptist Church in Garfield Park in Indianapolis and together they spent 44 loving years together until his passing in 2016.

She worked at Franklin College for over 20 years and held several different positions. Amber thoroughly enjoyed supervising Franklin College’s work study students as well as working alongside the director of the college bookstore until her retirement in 2000.

Amber was a member of the Shephard of the Hills Lutheran Church in Brown County and was also part of their Lady’s Auxiliary. She loved to travel, especially if it meant seeing the ocean, and enjoyed tagging along on long hauls with her husband, Jim, who was an over the road truck driver. In her earlier years she enjoyed bowling on a league in Franklin. Most of all, she loved family life and taking care of her dog, Whiskers.

Amber will be missed by her children, Brandy Ann Emmons-Powell of Manassas Park, Virginia, Amber “Leigh” Powell-Adams of Franklin; grandchild, Lauren KayAnn Powell-Adams of Franklin; siblings, Anthony “Tony” Emmons of Brown County and Ann Ingram of Clearwater, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim, and siblings Gary Ray Emmons and Peter Nathan Emmons.

A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19th at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation &Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. at Boone Hutcheson Cemetery in Greencastle.
