Here’s the latest on I-69 construction on the southside

Construction will continue near Johnson County this week, as crews work on a roundabout on State Road 144.

The roundabout will be located at State Road 144 and Waverly Park Road, just west of the Johnson County line in Morgan County. Workers will remove the traffic signal at the intersection in late June when the roundabout opens to traffic, according to a weekly construction update from the Indiana Department of Transportation.

In Marion County, Epler Avenue west of State Road 37 reopened to traffic after closing in October. Construction crews spent the fall and winter building the bridge and approaches of the Epler Avenue partial interchange with Interstate 69, in preparation for the interstate’s completion next year.

Work on the Southport Road interchange with I-69 will begin on or after Monday, and will include a 10-day closure of the State Road 37 and Old Southport Road signalized intersection. During the closure, drivers won’t be able to take Southport Road to northbound State Road 37, but all other movements will remain open. Drivers who wish to travel north can take a detour on Harding Street. Traffic will be shifted to new northbound lanes and all ramps will be open following the closure, INDOT officials say.

Construction work will continue on Interstate 465 over Harding Street, with crews demolishing the eastbound I-465 bridges and center pier on Harding Street. With the work, drivers heading in both directions on Harding Street will be restricted to one through lane and one left turn lane under I-465, causing traffic. Drivers can use Bluff Road, State Road 135/Meridian Street and U.S. 31/East Street as alternate routes, INDOT officials say.

The most current information about closures and restrictions can be found at 511in.org or INDOT’s TrafficWise app.
