Here’s the latest on I-69 construction on the southside

Most road construction for the Interstate 69 project will take place in Marion County this weekend.

Starting at 8 p.m. Friday, Bluff Road will be closed as construction crews remove the Interstate 465 bridge over the road. Drivers can follow a detour, which follows Thompson Road, Meridian Street and Hanna Avenue until the road reopens 5 a.m. Monday, according to a weekly construction update from the Indiana Department of Transportation.

There will be nightly 20-minute stoppages on Harding Street as workers continue to remove and rebuild the I-465 bridge over it. Construction on the two bridges is part of a larger project to widen I-465 between Interstate 65 and Interstate 70, as workers prepare to finish I-69 in Marion County next year, INDOT officials say.

Drivers can once again go from northbound State Road 37 to Old Southport Road as construction workers finished new northbound lanes from Southport Road to Epler Avenue. Construction on the Southport Road interchange is still ongoing, so drivers should be cautious in the area, INDOT officials say.

The most current information about closures and restrictions can be found at 511in.org or INDOT’s TrafficWise app.
