David Alan Parmerlee

Keymar, Maryland

David Alan Parmerlee, age 80, of Keymar, Maryland, passed away January 27, 2023. He was born to Hovey and Lucile Parmerlee in Indiana in February of 1942. He graduated valedictorian from Edinburgh (IN) High School in 1960. After earning his Bachelor of Science Electrical Engineering degree from Purdue University, David completed a tour of duty in Vietnam as a 1st Lieutenant, serving as a Signal Officer in the US Army Reserve. During his tour, he was awarded the Bronze Star and Army commendation medals, earning an honorable discharge at the rank of Captain at the end of his service. Dave was proud to be an American and was grateful for those who served and sacrificed for our country. His entire career, he worked on various electrical engineering contracts. He retired at the age of 77 after a 29-year career with Litton and Northrop Grumman.

While in college, David worked at the Purdue University radio station WBAA which fueled his passion for radios. He also enjoyed attending theater organ and Ham radio conventions. He encouraged his children and grandchildren to find their own passions. Dave was dedicated to his family, church, and always offered his talents to those in need. He will be remembered for his generosity, care for others, and unmatched work ethic.

David is survived by his wife, Ruth (Bearss) Parmerlee; sister, Rosemary (Bruce) Wolfe; daughters, Betsy (David) Ray and Heather (Damon) Boyle; bonus daughters, Lori (Neil) Reid, Cara (John) Papp, and Jan (Edwin) Reyes; 14 Grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and special nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was proceeded in death by his parents and the mother of his two daughters, Millie (Baker) Parmerlee.

A Memorial Service is to be held on May 13th at 10 AM at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home (Edinburgh, IN) with a visiting hour beforehand. His burial service, with full military honors will follow.
