Center Grove student stable after being struck by car

A Center Grove teen is in stable condition after being struck by a car in Bargersville Friday morning.

First responders were called to the 4500 block of S. Morgantown Road around 7:13 a.m. on a report of a vehicle crash/pedestrian struck. A 17-year-old Center Grove High School student was taken to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis in stable condition, said Mike Pruitt, Bargersville Community Fire Department deputy chief. There were no other injuries.

Prior to the incident, the teen was at a gathering at Center Grove soccer field ahead of “jorts day,” a non-school sanctioned event where students wear blue jean shorts and patriotic clothing to school. When it was time for school, the teen left in a truck with other teens, said Jeremy Roll, a Bargersville Police Department spokesperson.

Police say the truck was driving northbound on Morgantown Road toward Center Grove High School when an American flag on the back of the truck fell off. The driver stopped and the teen got out to pick up the flag. At that time, the teen was struck by a passing vehicle, Roll said.

The driver of the other vehicle stayed at the scene and did not have any signs of intoxication, he said.

An investigation into the incident by the Bargersville Police Department and Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is ongoing.
