Eldon Arvid Rebhorn

FRANKLIN

Eldon Arvid Rebhorn, age 88, of Franklin, Indiana, passed away on May 12, 2023. Eldon was born in Kane County, Illinois in 1934 to Percy and Evelyn Rebhorn. Eldon married his wife Marilyn in 1955; they had three children and were married for 52 years until Marilyn’s death in 2007. Also in 1955, Eldon was presented a 4-H National Leadership Award by President Eisenhower.

Eldon was a talented woodturning, woodcarving and marquetry artist. He wrote two books: Woodturning (1970) and Woodturning: Objects and Procedures (2015). Eldon also created beautiful art using the mediums of photography, paper sculpting, leather tooling, and even illumination and calligraphy.

Eldon earned an Ed.D. from the University of Illinois and became a professor of Technology Education at Indiana State University. In 1990, he was awarded the Presidential Citation by the International Technology Education Association in honor and recognition of his lifetime of teaching and mentoring students.

Faith was also an important focus of Eldon’s life. Eldon was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Terre Haute, Indiana for nearly 40 years; more recently he was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin, Indiana. Eldon also volunteered at the Johnson County food pantry and was a busy leader and frequent winner at the Franklin Recreation Center’s annual Woodcarving Magic Show.

Eldon is survived by his children Dale (Leslie), Doris (Duane), and Dean (Jennifer); his grandchildren Abby (John), Jeremy (Chelsea), Andrew (Grace), Spencer (Nikki) and Nathan, and by great-grandchildren Amelia, Henry and Owen. Eldon is also survived by two sisters-in-law and several much-loved nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in the Wright Chapel at the Otterbein Franklin SeniorLife Community on Saturday, July 22, 2023. Visitation time is from 2:00 – 4:00 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 4 pm. Burial will be at Lincoln Memorial Park in Aurora, Illinois.
