William E. Davenport

William E. “Bill” Davenport, 76, of Boggstown, passed away Friday, May 19, 2023, in Homer.

He was born August 31, 1946, in Indianapolis, the son of Charles and Agnes (Riewer) Davenport. On September 27, 1980, he married Patsy Joan “Pat” Bowman, and she survives.

In addition to Pat, Bill is survived by his sons, William Davenport Jr. and wife, Erika, of Ninevah, Chris Davenport and wife, Tiffany, of Franklin, and Brian Davenport and wife, Tylee of Homer; daughter, Holly Schrank and husband, Brian Taylor, of Homer; sister, Janet Shaffer and husband, Don, of Greenwood; 19 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Carol Davenport of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his dog, Mason, that they rescued in February of 2016.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Charles “Wayne” Davenport.

He graduated in 1964 from Franklin Central High School.

Bill was a member of Hope Christian Church.

He retired from the Beech Grove Fire Department, with 21 years of service. Bill was also an auctioneer and farmer.

He was a member of the Sugar Creek Masonic Lodge No. 279, Fairland Order of Eastern Star No. 359, Murat Shrine and the Scottish Rite.

Bill enjoyed farming, going camping and working at the Indiana State Fair.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm, Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville, with Masonic services at 7:30 pm.

Funeral services will be at 11 am, Thursday, May 25, 2023, at the funeral home, with Carson Root officiating.

Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Riverside Kentucky Christian Church or Hope Christian Church, in care of the funeral home.
