Edinburgh softball routs GCA in sectional

MacKenzie Bieker wasn’t quite perfect on Tuesday evening, but she and her Edinburgh teammates were more than good enough.

Bieker pitched a five-inning no-hitter, allowing just one walk and striking out 12, and she supplemented her efforts by going 2 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs as the host Lancers routed Greenwood Christian, 16-0, in the opening round of the Class A Edinburgh Sectional.

The Lancers (13-12) advance into a semifinal date against Morristown on Thursday.

Edinburgh did all of the damage it needed to do in the top of the first, putting nine runs on the board. The Cougars trailed 14-0 after two innings.

Kenna Streeval and Gracie Barrett each had three of the Lancers’ 17 hits on the day. Gracie Crawhorn scored four runs and drove in three out of the leadoff spot; she, Bieker, Eloise Cox and Alix Streeval finished with two hits apiece.

Defensively, Edinburgh played error-free ball.
