Helton, Warriors blank Shelbyville

Drew Helton pitched an 11-strikeout no-hitter and drove in two runs as Whiteland beat Shelbyville, 6-0, in the first round of the Class 4A East Central Sectional on Wednesday night. Peyton Emberton and Donavin Woodall each added an RBI for the Warriors (12-13), who will face the host Trojans in a semifinal game on Friday evening.

Lancers eliminated from sectional

Edinburgh tried to rally late, scoring twice in the seventh inning, but came up on the short side of a 6-3 game against host Morristown in a Class A sectional opener. Jared Myers drove in all three runs for the Lancers (3-22) on a pair of singles.

Softball

Braves edged in sectional final

Indian Creek pushed across the tying run in the top of the seventh inning, only to see Edgewood respond in the bottom of the inning to steal a 4-3 victory in the championship game of the Class 3A Northview Sectional on Wednesday.

The Braves (9-15) jumped out in front with two runs in the top of the first inning. The Mustangs (22-7) responded with single runs in the first and fifth innings, then pulled ahead with another in the sixth.

Delaney Jones was the hard-luck loser for the Braves, scattering eight hits and three walks across seven innings while striking out 10. Alli Gavin had three of Indian Creek’s eight hits in defeat.

Roncalli claims sectional title

Abbey Hofmann had two home runs and six RBIs to lead Class 4A No. 1 Roncalli to a 12-0 win over Perry Meridian in a Class 4A sectional championship game at Holder Field. Winning pitcher Keagan Rothrock (8 strikeouts) and Ann Marie Meek each added a homer and two RBIs for the Royals (28-3-1), who will host Avon in a regional game next Tuesday.

Grizzly Cubs top Royals

Franklin defeated Roncalli in an 18-hole match play contest at the Legends, 69.5 to 56.5, on Wednesday. Reid Davidson and Jack Lock each collected 12.5 points for the Grizzly Cubs, while Luke Bechert claimed 10.5 and Kyle Diebold had 9.5. Jake Lock had a hole-in-one on the par-3 16th.
