The Johnson County Highway Department plans to close the intersection of Stones Crossing Road and Saddle Club Road on or after May 30. This closure is for the construction of a new single-lane roundabout.

The road is scheduled to close for 60 days, to ensure the new roundabout is open by the time nearby Center Grove schools are back in session, according to a closure advisory from Crossroads Engineers.

The posted detour route will follow State Road 135, Smokey Row Road and Morgantown Road, engineers say.

The roundabout will have three entrances: two from Stones Crossing Road and one from Saddle Club Road. Residents of the Willow Lakes subdivision will have an entrance directly to the east of the roundabout via Water Way Drive, according to a project illustration.

The project is to improve safety at the accident-prone intersection, Luke Mastin, Johnson County highway director, told the Daily Journal in March. Accidents are common because of the steep grade on Saddle Club Road coming into Stones Crossing Road and the traffic volume of the ever-growing area of White River Township, he said.
