Jefferson Street, Earlywood Drive to close for railroad work in Franklin

The Louisville & Indiana Railroad is planning two projects to repair railroad crossings in Franklin.

The worn wooden planks that currently serve as a crossing surface will be replaced with a new rubber crossing surface. This work can’t be done while the road is open to traffic, so the work will cause closures on Jefferson Street and Earlywood Drive, city of Franklin and railroad officials say.

The railroad company plans to close the rail crossing at Jefferson Street for 24 hours starting at 6 a.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday. The official detour route follows Branigin Boulevard, Monroe Street and Water Street. People should not go north to avoid the closure because of construction on Yandes Street and Madison Street.

The following week, the Earlywood Drive rail crossing will be closed for 12 hours, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on June 6. To get around the closure, people are asked to follow the signed detour route that follows Graham Road, Commerce Drive and U.S. 31.
