William “Billy” Carl Van Cleave

FRANKLIN

William “Billy” Carl Van Cleave, 89, passed away at his residence on Thursday, June 1, 2023.

He was born on March 27, 1934 in Franklin, Indiana to Sarah (Beatty) and Burford Van Cleave. He married Marlene (McNicholas) Van Cleave on May 4, 1970. Billy is survived by wife, Marlene; daughter, Felicia G. Ward (Tommie); grandchildren, Devan Carl Ward, James Barger, Jr., Brittany Abell, Katherine Ward and great-grandchildren, James Charles Barger, Malani Abell, Nevaeh Ward and Aiden Ward. He was preceded in passing by his parents; daughter, Candy Barger and many brothers and sisters.

Billy was a graduate of Franklin High School. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, stationed in Germany from 1956 to 1959.

He was employed by United Telephone Company, retiring after fifty-five years of service. Billy also worked for the Branigin Family for over fifty-five years, doing maintenance work for them.

Billy was an avid fisherman and gardener. He loved watching basketball and was a World War II history buff. He also loved playing the lottery. He was an excellent husband, father, grandpa, uncle and a great friend.

The family will host a repass at a later date. Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home in Franklin is assisting the family with arrangements.
